1. Unconditional admission

1.1. Your matriculation certificate has been issued by 30 April

You will receive the admission decision in writing within approximately 10-30 working days of receipt of your application. Applicants who are admitted unconditionally, i.e., who are not required to sit the entrance exam, will be requested by e-mail to submit certain original documents (see items 3 and 4 below) by a given deadline, should they wish to take up their university place.

1.2 Your matriculation certificate has not been issued by 30 April

Be sure to send all available documentation required by us to the Admissions Office by 30 April. You will then receive a letter of acknowledgement.

Send a copy of your matriculation certificate immediately upon receipt - preferably by post or fax (++41 44 632 11 17) - but not later than 5 July, including an official translation if the original is not in German, French, Italian, Spanish or English. In case you receive your matriculation certificate just a few days later (e.g., Luxembourg), please contact the Admissions Office.

Should you receive your exam results mid-July or later (e.g. A-Levels, Irish Leaving Certificate), you can only be admitted if you meet the requirements for unconditional admission. Entry for first-year students is always in the autumn semester; there is no entry in the spring semester.

You will receive the admission decision in writing within approximately 10 working days of receipt of your application. 2. Conditional admission (entrance exam required)

2.1 Your matriculation certificate has been issued by 30 April

Registration documents checklist

Applicants who must sit an entrance exam in order to be admitted will receive a letter by post detailing the official entrance conditions together with further information regarding the entrance examination as well as a green registration form. Where appropriate, the information will be sent by e-mail. Return the green registration form to the Admissions Office by the registration deadline for the entrance examination, i.e., by 10 July 2012 (documents must arrive at the Admissions Office by 12 July 2012) at the very latest if you wish to register for the entrance examination.

We regret that incomplete and/or late green registration forms cannot be processed for enrolment in the autumn 2012 semester.

2.2 Your matriculation certificate has not been issued by 30 April

Be sure to send all available documentation required by us to the Admissions Office by 30 April. You will then receive a letter of acknowledgement together with a green registration form.

We cannot guarantee entry in the same year, should you receive your exam results mid-July and later (e.g. A-Levels, Irish Leaving Certificate). Entry for first-year students is always in the autumn semester; there is no entry in the spring semester.

You will receive the admission decision in writing within approximately 10 working days of receipt of your application. If you wish to register for the entrance exam, return the green registration form together with the required documents to the Admissions Office by the registration deadline for the entrance examination, i.e., by 10 July 2012 (documents must arrive at the Admissions Office by 12 July 2012) at the very latest.

We regret that incomplete and/or late green registration forms cannot be processed for enrolment in the autumn 2012 semester.

3. Results of National University Entrance Examinations (if requested by us)

If your admission depends on the results of university entrance examinations in the country of your previous education and these results cannot be provided by 10 July (deadline entrance exam registration), they can only be handed in later with the approval of the Admissions Office and only until the end of August 2012. It is therefore essential that you indicate in your application when you will have your results.

4. Original documents required

ETH Zurich requires the originals of your matriculation certificate and, where requested, the originals of the university entrance examination results, as well as an official (certified) translation of all documents which are not issued in German, French, Italian, Spanish or English. Swiss Universities require the original matriculation certificate in order to assign an individual Swiss matriculation number to each new student. This number (a tiny yellow sticker) has to be attached to the matriculation certificate. All original documents will be returned during the autumn semester. If you fail the entrance examination, you may pick up your original documents from the Admissions Office immediately after publication of the exam results.
