An overview of the Rectorate’s major projects

Academic applications

Since 1998, the Rectorate and ICT services are working together to develop IT applications which will support the administrative processes of education. These projects are generally planned and implemented in periods of two to three years. The current project is "IT-Administration Lehrbetrieb 2011-2013". This three-year project includes important updates and extensions to the academic applications. The main goals are to create a new application to support the admission procedure and to introduce electronic student dossiers (Records Management) .

Recruitment and admission of Master students

The admission procedure at Master’s level is a challenging balancing act between the Admissions Office at the Rectorate and the Admissions Committees of the appropriate department. In view of the fast growing number of applicants and the ETH’s goal to continually improve its position in the face of international competition, this procedure needs to be further developed and optimised. At a retreat in November 2008, the parties involved have expressed their demands and wishes, and drew up solution approaches. Ever since, these approaches have been implemented in several subprojects, which are now being realised. This constant process of development will stretch over a period of up to five years

Optimising utilised space for teaching rooms

The fast growing number of students is accompanied by the practically constant range of teaching rooms (lecture halls and seminar rooms), which means that it gets harder and harder to meet all requirements of the academic planning process. As a result, at the end of 2010 the Rectorate has launched a project to discuss and draw up solutions for optimising the utilised space for teaching rooms. The time frame for this project is from 2012 to 2013.
