During the semester and examination sessions, first priority for the use of seminar rooms is given to teaching and examinations. It is therefore not possible to hold congresses during the semester.

During non-teaching periods and after the examinations (calender weeks 2-3, 23-31, 36-37 and Easter), seminar rooms are, as a rule, available for congresses, conferences, lectures, and one-off events. Availability is, however, subject to closure due to building renovations which are often conducted during the non-teaching periods.

Using seminar rooms for other events during the semester

Up to the third week of the semester, all non-reserved seminar rooms must remain free Mo-Fr, 8.00 am - 5.00 pm for teaching purposes.

During the semester, room reservations for one-off events scheduled to take place outside this time (Mo-Fr, 8.00 pm - 5.00 pm) can only be considered after the publication of the course catalogue.

Any one-off events scheduled to take place during the hours blocked for teaching can only be considered after the second semester week.

Using seminar rooms for other events during the examination session

Once the examination schedule has been published, rooms may, depending on availability, be reserved for one-off events held during the session examination period.

ETH in-house events

Room reservations for ETH Zurich in-house events are always given priority.

The main two lecture theatres at ETH, Auditorium Maximum and Semper Aula, are not used for lectures and examinations. During the semester, they are available Monday-Friday for ETH in-house special events.

During the semester, reservations for ETH professors’ inaugural and farewell lectures and degree conferral ceremonies in the Auditorium Maximum have top priority. Only a very limited number of early reservations can be processed for in-house events. Such reservations must be approved by the Head of the Rectorate. Dates available for reservations are only released approximately eight weeks before the semester commences.

The lecture hall, HPH G1 on Hönggerberg, is the “Auditorium Maximum” of Science City. It is available on Fridays (during the autumn semester, only in the afternoons: 1.00 pm - 7.00 pm).

Use of seminar rooms by third parties

The use of seminar rooms by third parties (external organisers) is subject to charges and is governed by the Regulations on the Use of Rooms at ETH Zurich (PDF, 94 kB) which entered into force on 01.03.2009.

ETH organisational units may not make reservations for third parties. The third party concerned must contact the Room and Course Scheduling Office directly.
