There is no minimum duration of studies for doctoral studies at ETH Zurich. On average, doctoral studies take up to four years with the maximum duration of studies being six years. Exceeding this deadline results in being exmatriculated. If necessary, the Prorector can extend the deadline upon receiving a well-founded request from the doctoral student and his/her supervisor which has already been signed by the responsible department.
