myStudies: Transcript of Records

Glossary

Important terms

Technical aspects

Web applications

The transcript of records exists only for students studying in accordance with degree programmes in conformity with ECTS (the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System). In particular it does not exist for students from old diploma programmes. For some doctoral students and post-diploma degree programmes it exists too. Please contact your Study Administration should you have questions about.

The transcript of records is based on the Programme Regulations and is sub-divided into categories. For each category it shows the performances achieved so far and/or decreed by the Administration Office, with the corresponding credit points.

It also shows how many credit points at least must be achieved to receive the diploma, and how many credit points are still lacking and in which categories.

If not all the performances are displayed, the following points should be checked:

Performance assessments without a category

According to the course catalogue, such subjects do not belong to any category of the corresponding degree programme. For questions relating to this, please contact your Administration Office.

Adding up credits and difference in the total

Should you have acquired more credits than the required number in a given category, the "superfluous" credits are calculated in the corresponding category and not in the difference from the total, i.e., these "superfluous" credits are not relevant for your request to issue the degree.

These credits are, however, recognised for the overall sum since the performance assessments involved can at best be postponed.
A similar rule spplies for performance assessments that are not allocated to any particular category.

Assign category

Use this function to assign or re-assign performances. Only categories that are also provided for the purpose in the corresponding degree programme are available for selection. Performances from other degree programmes that are not (yet) listed in a final academic record can also be imported here.

Official document

The print-out from myStudies is not an official document. An official transcript of records of ETH Zurich (e.g. for job applications) is issued by the Administration Office.

Change of degree programme

The transcript of records of the previous degree programme is displayed until registration for the semester of the new degree programme. After registration, the transcript of records of the new degree programme is displayed.

The following instances of a change of degree programme occur:

If previous performances with exemptions were already recognised, the target credit points in the transcript of records are reduced in certain categories. In addition the line: “Recognition of credit points from previous studies: xx credit points” appears at the bottom.

Additional requirements

As a rule, when changing the institution of higher education or discipline, it is necessary to provide additional performance assessments to acquire the required prior knowledge. These are referred to as additional requirements and are a part of the admission decree.

The performances achieved, and possibly the number of credit points needed for the “Additional requirements” section, are displayed. However, credit points and grades from additional requirements do not count for the current study programme.

Important: Performance assessments of this kind must already be registered under “Additional requirements” when registering for the examination. If you have questions in this connection, please contact the Examination Office directly.

Assign to another category

Courses displaied in this section can not be changed into another category by yourself in myStudies. If you try to do so by using the function "Assign Category" they will not be shown. Please contact your Study Administration Office for correct changes.

Exchange programme (“Outgoing”)

Course units successfully completed during an exchange year are recorded by the Administration Offices as exchange subjects. After that they are shown on the study overview and transcript of records, and on the final academic record.

Note: Exchange subjects are not shown in the Diploma Supplement.
