Learning Materials

For the purpose of educational support you can provide URLs (links) for individual course units. These links should point to websites which are related to the subject of the course unit.

The links pertaining to learning materials are divided into the following categories for the listed subjects:

Main link

Website with detailed information on the programme or context of the course, e.g.:

• website of the institute with the detailed programme of the course
• private homepage of the lecturer with additional information

Recording

All links with video recordings, e.g.:

• recording of your own course at ETH
• course from the iTunes U resources from another university
• YouTube video related to the subject
• podcast

Learning environment

Links to web-based learning platforms, e.g.:

• ILIAS or Moodle learning environment accompanying the course
• link to ELBA tools used in the course
• link to the exam in preparation of the online exam
• collaboration platform in order to work with external persons
• external interactive learning module for certain parts of the course
• online quiz for the purpose of repetition

Teaching document repository

Link to web-based document repository of ILIAS

Documents

Link to a document storage or server with materials, e.g.:

• BSCW workspace with documents related to the course
• file server
• handouts such as scripts or excursion documents

Literature

Link to online literature sources, links to libraries etc., e.g.:

• course book with the possibility to order
• online article related to the subject
• script or publication from the ETH E-Collection
• free literature on the net (OpenBook)

Link "Access to ETH-Library"

Use of this link allows you to set a direct URL within NEBIS catalogue. We recommend to use the URL presented by use of "Permanent Link" - see the image below.

Additional links

Links which cannot be assigned to any of the above mentioned categories, e.g.:

• portal of the international subject community
• further information and contents related to the subject

Authorization

The main lecturers responsible for the course and their substitutes have modify authorisation. Any other lecturers involved in the course and their substitutes have view authorisation. Lecturers who are not the main ones responsible for the course should report any changes they wish to make to the main lecturers or to the persons in the departments who are responsible for the catalogue data (e-mail link for these individuals can be found in eDoz).

Visibility of learning materials

By means of the attribute "Visibility" you can define where a link pertaining to learning materials is visible:

"only lecturers of the course unit"

Visible in eDoz for all lecturers of the course unit and their substitutes.

"students and lecturers of the course unit"

Visible in eDoz for all lecturers of the course unit and their substitutes and for students in myStudies (but not in the public Course Catalogue).

"public, students and lecturers of the course unit"

Visible in eDoz for all lecturers of the course unit and their substitutes,  for students in myStudies and in the Course Catalogue.

Notice:

• The title "Learning materials" is only displayed if at least one "public, students and lecturers of the course unit" link is defined
• The title of a category is only displayed if at least one "public, students and lecturers of the course unit" link is defined in this category

Visibility of learning materials in Course Cataloque

In the Course Catalogue is published:

• the title of a category only if at least one "public, students and lecturers of the course unit" link is defined in this category
• the title "Learning materials" only if at least one category is displayed
