Addresses and Personal Data: The ETH-Card in Detail

If you are in possession of an ETH-card you can check details on the "Personal and Communication Data" Web page.

Status: Your card is either enabled, requires validation, or it is locked.

Enabled

The card has the status enabled when it is a valid card which is neither locked nor requires validation.

Validation

The card contains a rewritable area. If you are asked to validate your ETH-card, proceed to a validation terminal in order to have the information on the rewritable TRW stripe of your card updated.

Normally students will have to revalidate their card every semester, employees at least once a year.

Locked

If your ETH-card shows the status locked, it cannot be utilized to order the Mobility trial subscription or for the electronic admission system. Further details are not shown.

To unlock your card, please report to the contact centre specified in the application.

Personal Data

The data printed on the coloured background and the library barcode on the back cannot be altered.

Front

Data released can be seen on the front and is visible after imprinting the TRW stripe. Student and trainee cards are marked with a big black "S".

This symbol is essential for the usual student discounts inside and outside of the educational institution, including student restaurants and cafeterias of ETH and the University of Zurich.

Academic Sports Association Zurich (ASVZ) entitlement, if authorized, is printed on the front of the card. Staff must procure their entitlement at the ASVZ counter and then validate their card, whereupon the ASVZ logo will appear on the white stripe. The old ETH-card will remain valid as an admission identity card until the current stick-on label expires.

Data released can be seen on the back of the card. Please sign your card in the signature field.
